THIS ENGLAND’S FINEST TEA ROOMS
Mrs Jean Davies would like to share her recommendation for a “brilliant” local tea room. The Old Stables Vintage Tea Shop, Rear of 20/22 West Street, Chorley, Lancashire PR7 2SJ (01257 273796), tucked away in an alley near St Mary’s church, offers soups, sandwiches, cream teas, scones and cakes in a pretty pastel-coloured room with oodles of vintage touches. Jean, who goes every week, assures us that visitors love it as everyone is so friendly. The South Lancashire Clandestine Cake Club would concur, describing it as one of Chorley’s Hidden Gems on a recent blog. Bravo!
Meanwhile, in the pretty market town of
Midhurst in the South Downs National Park,
Anne Bloxell picks out Cockburn’s (aka Museum Tea Rooms), Knockhundred Row, Midhurst GU29 9DQ (01730 814107) for high praise.
“Situated above the local museum, it’s up a flight of stairs, but the climb is worth it. Old oak beams, cosy atmosphere and attentive service all make your stay enjoyable.” Sussex Craggy Roosters, Chai Spiced Teabread, Lavender and Orange Cake are some of the cakes offered. Home-cooked food is available at lunchtime (including a good roast on a Sunday) and a long-standing Certificate of Excellence all make this worth a visit. Please keep recommending your favourites – our folder is looking a little light!
