WHO’S BOARD?

Skateboarding has boomed in popularity recently and it’s not young men causing the spike. Skateboard England, the official governing body for the sport, say the big increases have been from females, couples and the older generation. Equipment has sold out across the country and MySkate, an app which shows skatepark locations in the UK, has seen rises of 180,000 users each month. Facebook group, Very Old Skateboarders, for “older than normal skaters” who might have been told “you’re too old to skate but don’t care”, has nearly 7,000 members now, too, and if you’re prepared not to argue over whether to wear a helmet “you’re just as welcome as Tony Hawk”. Skateboarding becomes an Olympic sport this year, so the wheels aren’t coming off this trend any time soon.
