A GREEN ROOF
I was interested to read your article on England’s cathedrals in the summer edition, especially Chichester. How many of your readers noticed the unusual roof – green on one side of the spire, grey on the other?
My father was a sheet metal worker who spent most of his early life re-roofing roofs with copper. He worked on this cathedral between 1951 and 1954. Last year my son visited Chichester and his first visit was to see Grandad’s work. Imagine his surprise to see the copper was
being replaced with lead. I understand the cathedral is the only one so near the sea and has no doubt suffered from the weather.
There are many buildings in England, Wales and Ireland which have Dad’s green roofs.

THANK YOU!
In our winter issue, Ann Collins was trying to locate the music book World Wide Favourites. Our thanks to Reginald Mayne who is on the case!
