BIZARRE BOUNTY

-

I was most interested to read the article about Clarice Cliff in the winter edition. In the years leading up to World War II, my late mother established a successful home-made cakes business in Bournemouth with her mother. I remember mother telling me that, for a while, their bulk flour company provided a piece of Bizarre ware with each order, presumably as a promotional exercise! My parents married at the outbreak of the war. My father was working for the Ministry of Food and secured a posting to the Newcastle-upon-Tyne office. This resulted in the business folding immediately, much to my mother’s and grandmother’s distress, of course.

Unfortunately, their collection (size unknown) disappeared subsequently over time, for obvious reasons, and none survived in our household after the war as far as I can recall. More recently, I bought a limited edition sugar sifter (House & Bridge design) in the Fantastique range, which I use occasionally. I also have a copy of the wonderful book: Clarice Cliff for Collectors ,but have yet to acquire a genuine piece of Bizarre ware! Miles Rhodes, Moulton,
