A short-lived, hardy biennial with pretty, scented flowers in shades of lilac, dark purple and white. It is great for attracting some early pollinators.

TULIPA SPRENGERI (SPRENGER’S TULIP)

With scarlet petals, burnished with copper this late-season species tulip looks breathtaking when naturalised in dappled shade. Left undisturbed, it will slowly self-seed. Height 40cm.

BEESIA CALTHIFOLIA (MARIGOLD-LEAVED BEESIA)

A creeping, herbaceous evergreen perennial with green, heart-shaped leaves with acid green marbling. Tiny starry flowers on wiry stems emerge in summer. Height 30cm.
