In the au­tumn of 2015, the Museo Thyssen-Borne­misza, in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Munch Museet of Oslo, will host the first ma­jor ex­hi­bi­tion to be held on the Nor­we­gian artist in Madrid since 1984. Cu­rated by Paloma Alarcó, Chief Cu­ra­tor of Mod­ern Paint­ing at the Museo Thyssen-Borne­misza, Madrid, and Jon-Ove Stei­haug, Se­nior Cu­ra­tor and Act­ing Head of Ex­hi­bi­tions and Col­lec­tions of the Munch Museet, Oslo, the show will ex­am­ine Ed­vard Munch’s long and pro­lific ca­reer through 80 works by the pain­ter, half of them from the col­lec­tion of the Munch Museet.

Ed­vard Munch. Archetypes will ul­ti­mately an­a­lyse the artis­tic strate­gies used by the pain­ter to ori­ent space to­wards a psy­chic di­men­sion and con­vert his com­po­si­tions into a last­ing truth that sym­bol­ises the hu­man con­di­tion.
