Ivisited the World Travel Market recently where I met the Minister for Tourism and Antiquities for Jordan, Mr Nayef Hmeidi Al-Fayez. He was keen to tell me that Jordan is ‘open for business’ and we musn’t forget all their amazing sites - not just Petra but Jerash, Umm Qais and Pella, the amazing castles of Shobak and Kerak, the holy sites of Mount Nebo and Madaba or the Umayyid hunting lodges of Qasr Amra or Qasr Kharana too. And of course, if you are keen to visit the planet Mars, then all you have to do is visit the Wadi Rum - where the film The Martian was located. If you would like an introduction to these amazing sites, you can now see them on Google street view which has 30 historical sites in Jordan to explore. How amazing!
TT magazine is all about bringing you both the familiar and unfamiliar places to visit. I was very struck with Christine’s piece on Tbilisi in this issue, and it is definitely on my list of places to visit now. Likewise with Göbekli Tepe in Turkey - luckily the world is still full of amazing places to see. So wherever your travels take you in 2016, whether they are in the pages of books, magazines, online or on the ground, I hope they are hugely enjoyable and satisfying.
Happy reading and wishing you a fabulous 2016.
