Language: The official language is Arabic, but English is spoken in the cities. The Jordanian people appreciate if you try to speak the language. Even a simple ‘Hello’ (maheba) and ‘thank you’ (sukhran) will go a long way.
Electrical current/ plugs: 220 AC volts. Plugs are the rounded two- pronged variety. Visitors from the US will need a transformer (which most hotels can provide).
Water: Visitors to Jordan are encouraged not to waste water as it is a precious resource. Hotels rated 3 stars and above have their own water filtering systems, so their water is considered safe to drink. Bottled water is readily available.
Politics: The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a constitutional monarchy and the King holds wide executive and legislative powers.
Religion: Although Islam is the main religion in the country, for over 90% of the population, there is no state religion and religious freedom is promoted.
