That the tie and cravat were invented in Croatia? They originated from the 17th-century military unit known as the Croats who used cloths tied around their necks. Coarse cloths were used by enlisted soldiers while fine linens and silks were used by the officers. The word cravat derives from the French cravate, a corrupt French pronunciation of Croate.
