Faras Gallery re-opens
Warsaw National Museum, Poland Now on show
The newly-opened Faras Gallery houses treasures of medieval Christian art from Nubia, the largest collection of its kind in Europe.
All the pieces presented in the Gallery come from Sudan and, organized chronologically, present the development of religious painting of Northern Nubia between the 7th and 14th century.
The first exhibits were acquired in 1960, as a result of archaeological excavations in Sudan. The expedition (the first one in the history), led by Professor Kazimierz Michałowski, aimed at exploring the ruins of an ancient urban area in Faras.
