Covered with 7,000 square metres of mosaic tiles, this Russian Orthodox church was built on the spot where Tsar Alexander II was fatally wounded in March 1881, by a bombthrowing activist. It took twenty four years to build (1883- 1907) and was paid for by the Imperial family. It cost 4.6 million roubles.
