Language: The official language is Arabic, but English is spoken in the cities. The Jordanian people appreciate if you try to speak the language. Even a simple ‘Hello’ ( maheba) and ‘thank you’ ( sukhran) will go a long way. Electrical current/ plugs: 220 AC volts. Plugs are the rounded twopronged variety. Visitors from the US will need a transformer (which most hotels can provide). Water: Visitors to Jordan are encouraged not to waste water as it is a precious resource. Bottled water is readily available and recommended to drink. Politics: The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a constitutional monarchy and the King holds wide executive and legislative powers.
Religion: Although Islam is the main religion in the country, for over 90% of the population, there is no state religion and religious freedom is promoted.
