Imentioned in the winter edition that we'd hopefully be hearing more about Troy this year and so I am delighted to bring you a whole supplement on the site, the area and the initiative from the Turkish Culture and Information Office celebrating 2018: The Year of Troy. Definitely a good excuse to discover this wonderful site and to see all there is in the area.
In the magazine we travel far and wide with visits to the Empty Quarter in Oman, Ohrid: the City of Light in Macedonia, and Cupid's Cove in Canada. Hilary Bradt looks at the artistic motifs found in the little churches in Devon and is also our Traveller's Tale this issue – with a fascinating story of being caught up in the Entebbe crisis in July 1976.
We have a number of features on art events including the Silver Caesars at Waddesdon Manor, Dutch Golden Age paintings from National Trust properties at the Holburne Museum in Bath, and the site of Pompeii and Herculaneum being used as a backdrop to a new artistic venture. Intrepid Traveller is back with adventurer K.C. Gandar-Dower and we meet Sarah Dunant, an award-winning novelist who discovered some shocking revelations when researching her Renaissance novels.
I must end on a sad note. A frequent contributor to this magazine, Lucy Mallows, died unexpectedly at Easter. Lucy was a fine writer, linguist and photographer and leaves behind an impressive body of work. We feel very lucky that she loved writing for Timeless Travels and will miss her very much.
