Per­haps Ham­burg’s most en­light­en­ing mu­seum is the Em­i­gra­tion Mu­seum BallinS­tadt. Named after a Ger­man Jew, who trans­formed Ham­burg’s ship­ping in­dus­try, it was from here that five mil­lion peo­ple em­i­grated to Amer­ica in the newly-cre­ated steer­age class.
