Zurich’s first river bathing cab­ins ap­peared on the Stadthausq­uai in 1837. These were re­placed in 1888 by the el­e­gant pav­il­ion seen there to­day. Its lo­cal name of ‘Frauen­badi’ re­flects the fact that swim­ming on this stretch of the river has long been re­served for women.
