Met returns Egyptian coffin
The Metropolitan Museum in New
York has returned an ancient Egyptian coffin that it had purchased in July 2017 to the Government of Egypt. The sarcophagus, inscribed with the name Nedjemankh, a priest of the ram-god Heryshef, was discovered to have been looted from Egypt in 2011. Despite a rigorous vetting programme, the museum only recently learned of its false ownership history.
