Notes Use a scant ¼in seam allowance unless stated otherwise. Fi recommends using a fused, rawedge technique for your appliqué (see appliqué notes box). Cut pieces in the order listed and cut strips from the longest edge (approximat­ely 21in) of the fat quarter unless otherwise instructed. Try not to be too worried about fabric symmetry – the Arts & Crafts style was all about the charm of hand-made items, so quirks are good! Blocks used in the middle column are referred to as ‘centre blocks’, and blocks used in the left and right columns are ‘side blocks’. OS = Odd Scraps block. CC = Cross & Crown block. DD = Duck & Ducklings block. WOF = width of fabric. HST = half- square triangles. QST = quarter- square triangles. Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q – Six (6) 16in squares (for side triangles). – Three (3) 6in squares (for DD). – Four (4) 4½in x 2½in rectangles (for CC). One (1) 6in x WOF strip, subcut into six (6) 6in squares (for OS). Two (2) 4½in x WOF strips, subcut into sixteen (16) 4½in x 2½in rectangles (for CC). Q Q Cutting out for the appliqué Six (6) 5in squares (for CC and DD blocks). Q 9 From the red fat quarters, cut the following using the templates: Two (2) of leaf A. Two (2) of leaf A reversed. Two (2) of leaf B. Two (2) of leaf B reversed. Thirty (30) of large grape. Forty-two (42) of medium grape. Eighteen (18) of small grape. 3 6 From the red fat quarters, cut the following: Two (2) 3½in strips, subcut into eight (8) 3½in squares (for CC). Five (5) 2½in strips, subcut into thirty-five (35) 2½in squares (for all blocks). From the blue fat quarters, cut the following: Two (2) 6in strips, subcut into six (6) 6in squares (for DD and OS blocks). Three (3) 2½in strips, subcut into twenty-four (24) 2½in squares (for CC and OS blocks). Eight (8) 5in squares (for DD). Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q 4 From the ochre fat quarters, cut the following: Six (6) 2½in strips, subcut into forty- eight (48) 2½in squares (for all blocks). Two (2) 6in squares (for OS). Two (2) 2½in squares (for OS). Q 10 From the ochre fat quarters, cut the following using the templates: Three (3) of leaf A. Three (3) of leaf A reversed. Four (4) of leaf B. Three (3) of leaf B reversed. 7 From the dark/charcoal fat quarters, cut the following: One (1) 6in strip, subcut into three (3) 6in squares (for DD). One (1) 2½in strip, subcut into six (6) 2½in squares (for DD). Eight (8) 5in squares (for CC). Two (2) 3½in squares (for CC). Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q Q 5 From the green fat quarters, cut the following: Four (4) 6in squares (for OS). Four (4) 6in squares, subcut into sixteen (16) 3in squares (for DD).
