Stitch the rows together, then press (it doesn’t matter which way). Trim and square up the blocks to 10½in square if necessary. Q Q Q Q 41 Repeat steps 39 and 40 with the four (4) pieced units with large green triangles, four (4) cream 4½in x 2½in rectangles, and one (1) red 2½in square to make the single CC centre block ( Q Fig 24B). Fig 26 CC side - make 4 CC centre - make 1 45 For the end of row blocks, add a single side triangle to each, as shown in Press, then add two (2) corner triangles to complete. Again, be sure to align the triangles the same way on all the blocks. Press all seams away from the blocks. Again, don’t trim yet. Fig 24A Fig 24B Fig 27. Setting the blocks on point 42 Take the six (6) 16in squares of cream background and cut them in half diagonally twice to make twenty-four (24) cut QSTs for the side setting triangles ( Fig 25A). 43 Take the six (6) 8½in squares of cream and cut them in half diagonally once to make twelve (12) cut HSTs for the corner setting triangles ( Fig 28 Fig 29 Fig 25B). Fig 27 46 Lay out the two (2) side columns in the below order, rotating blocks as necessary ( Pin them together, matching the seams at the points, and stitch together. You may find it easier to either press these seams open or change the direction of pressing at the centre point. CC side block. DD side block. OS side block. DD side block. CC side block. Handle carefully to avoid stretching the bias edges, and make sure that you orient the side triangles the same way for each block. Press all seams away from the blocks. The edges will overlap a bit, but don’t trim them yet. Fig 26). Q Q Q Q Q 47 Repeat step 46 for the centre column, with the remaining 57 Join us at www.gathered.how/todaysquilter
