The greens on their day are some of the best around. They run fast and true, some having subtle slopes that cause problems. The tee boxes are small and many have different levels for each colour tees, a nice touch.

The course is in excellent condition, the fairways are superb with very tight grass meaning pitching and wedge shots are tough. The heather and gorse mix makes a very punishing course if shots are off line.

A friendly start but it’s tough around the turn and my favourite stretch of holes is 14-16 – very picturesque challenges demanding good ball-striking before arriving on tough greens.

The driving range has been upgraded after the previous one blew down. The new facilities are nice with a good practice green and a splendid putting green beside the 1st tee.

The new manager has worked hard with the new greenkeeper to create a more enjoyable visit… and it’s worked very well.

The food was fine, the service fast and it was great to sit on the upstairs decking area and watch the other groups come in.

The men’s changing facilities offered good, hot powerful showers and a clean dressing room which provided easy access to the clubhouse and club storage. Enhanced the visiting experience.

No doubt about it. And when the course is in good condition, it’s a real treat to play.

The course dries very quickly so there are no muddy issues, even in winter, here. Don’t forget the neighbouring nine-holer – with long holes and small greens it’s even tougher than the main course!
