The maiden Ma­jor club has an­other new mem­ber in Pa­trick Reed – and his­tory sug­gests we’ll be crown­ing an­other at next month’s US Open. Since Ja­son Day won the PGA Cham­pi­onship in 2015, eight of the last nine Ma­jor cham­pi­ons have cel­e­brated their break­through vic­tory. And that’s not all. A whop­ping 71.8% of win­ners at the US Open have been first timers, in­clud­ing seven of the last nine. Mas­ters brides­maid Rickie Fowler was a run­ner-up in 2014 and is one of sev­eral Ry­der Cup con­tenders – and mul­ti­ple PGA Tour win­ners – try­ing to shed their ‘nearly man’ tag.
