GETTING THERE

A big advantage of planning a trip here, because Malaga is one of the best-served airports in Europe. All the lowcost airlines fly here with all the key budget airlines from as widely as Cardiff to Bournemouth to Aberdeen.

WHEN TO GO

A year-round destination with an average of 320 sunny days so that means long hot summers, warm spring and autumn periods and mild, relatively dry winters. May to September inclusive guarantees swimming in warm pools, while spring and autumn are also lovely if less sizzling. But even in the winter months you could easily get a week of nothing but sun!

WHERE TO STAY

We stayed at the H10 Andalucia Plaza, within 15 minutes of all of the courses. The H10 group is very reliable, and so it was no surprise to find a hotel with an excellent breakfast, clean and stylish rooms, good facilities and a good general vibe. But you really are not stuck for accommodation here; there will be categorically something to suit your budget in this holiday hotspot.

GOOD TO KNOW

Valderrama is 20 minutes away and contrary to popular perception, you can play here. With a bit of forward planning, and a willingness to dig deep in your wallet, you can play the world-famous Ryder Cup course.

WHAT TO DO

Enjoy the marina, nightlife, beach and shopping of Puerto Banus, browse the historic centre packed with shops and cafes of Plaza de los Naranjos, visit the Selwo Marina, an aqua heaven with dolphins and sea lions or climb the imposing La Concha!

FOOD AND DRINK

It is almost superfluous to even start summarising where to eat and drink because it is so varied in this holiday heaven, from Puerto Banus to Naranjos.
