A MODEL GOLF CLUB

Today's Golfer (UK) - - FIRST TEE - SHARON COTTERELL

I work with young adults that have autism and recently approached Durham City Golf Club about bringing some of my students down to the range to try golf out. To my surprise, the club pro Tom Cranfield was able to acquire funding from Sport England to provide a set of weekly lessons.

The students can’t wait for every Thursday to play golf, and we have noticed that their behaviour, confidence and ability to problem solve have all improved. This has led to one of my students actually playing three rounds of golf with me and my partner Paul. His mum has advised us that she has never seen him happier than when he’s on the golf course. I am now working with my employer to not only secure further funding for lessons, but to build a mini driving range at my place of work so all the students can try golf for themselves.
