WEAK GRIP: SWING THE CLUBHEAD

-

1 TRAIL HAND ON TOP

In the weak hold, those Vs point more up towards your chin or even your lead shoulder. The handle feels more in the palm of the gloved hand and the fingers of the trail hand.

2 OPEN SEASON

The natural move for the weaker grip is to open the face. This time, club delivery sees the face looking more to the sky, when a neutral angle would see the leading edge more vertical. From here we clearly need a release pattern that encourages the clubface to rotate and square up… otherwise we are in for some big, high cuts.

3 SLOWER BODY, SPEEDIER ARMS

For the weak grip release, we need to slow the body down and speed the hands and arms up. Your feeling will be of hands and arms catching up the body sooner during the downswing. This typically promotes a more side-on delivery, well-suited to less athletic players who struggle to create an aggressive body motion on the way through.
