Finished the European Tour season €2,321,166 richer and third in the Order of Merit, his third successive top-10 finish.

April 2008

Extended his winless run in European Tour play-offs to four at the Portuguese Open, losing on the third extra hole to Gregory Bourdy.

July 2008

A final-round 67 at Royal Birkdale helped propel Howell into a tie for 7th at The Open, his best-ever Major finish.

September 2013

Ended a seven-year wait for a victory by defeating Peter Uihlein in a playoff at the Dunhill Links Championship.

December 2013

Helped overturn a 7-3 deficit against Asia in the Royal Trophy, coming from three down with four to play to win his singles match against Kim Hyung-sung. Europe won 8½-7½.

July 2014

Became the second youngest man in history to reach 500 appearances on the European Tour after teeing it up at the Open de France.

July 2015

Played in his 25th Major, his first Open on the Old Course. “If my career had gone by without ever playing in a St Andrews Open, I’d have been gutted.”

January 2017

Elected to succeed Thomas Bjorn as chairman of the European Tour’s Tournament Committee, a role he still holds.

December 2017

Ended an injury-disrupted season with 15 missed cuts from 20 starts. He finished 181st in the Race to Dubai, his worst-ever Order of Merit finish.

Became the 10th player in European Tour history to reach 600 career appearances at the Nordea Masters.
