TWO STEPS TO THE PERFECT GRIP

Even the world’s best players go back to basics when they’re struggling – you should, too

-

The grip is, without question, the biggest contributor to swing faults, bar none. It’s probably the most underappreciated part of the golf swing, and yet most people just don’t pay enough attention to it. At least 75 per cent of amateurs grip the club too high in the hands – if you wear a hole through the heel of your glove, you can guarantee you have this problem. By gripping too much in the palm, this automatically disables the swing and means that the takeaway is led by the arms and elbows. The tendency is to then roll the club back with your hands, take it on the outside and break the left arm – all of which lead to a host of swing faults. That’s why, if I could give every amateur one tip, it would be to get their left hand in the correct position on the club. It’s the first point of contact we have with the club, so it needs to be right. Golf Pride’s ALIGN grips will help.
