KEDLESTON PARK, DERBYS

-

Architects: James Braid/john Morrison (1946). Yardage: 6,440-7,008 (par 72/70).

Green fees: £75 midweek, £80 weekends (£40 county cartd)

In a nutshell… It’s hard to believe this top-quality parkland, which hosted regional Open qualifying this summer, is just a few miles outside Derby. Mature trees, the bubbling Cutler Brook and the ever-present grandeur of Kedleston Hall give the place the feel of a country estate. To play well you need to... Keep it out of the (numerous) trees; if you’re not reasonably accurate off the tee, you’ll spend all day chipping out (thankfully finding your ball isn’t a problem). Large greens with numerous tiers require a solid putting touch.

You’ll love the… Stretch of holes down by the river, while the par 3s are particularly good, especially the 7th with water guarding the green.
