‘The clubhouse cheered whenever anyone found the water on the 18th – mine was one of them!’

-

Right from walking onto the 1st tee and seeing the hole ahead, you are reminded of the challenge of the Twenty Ten. Each hole is different and presents its own challenge. I’ve played the course a couple times before… but that didn’t make it any easier this time!

I was particularly impressed with the fantastically true greens: their speed was frightening at times! The greens and the course as a whole were in amazing condition. The greenkeepers had worked wonders considering the wet conditions leading up to our visit.

The practice facilities are second to none, with complimentary range balls at arrival to the chipping area, and large putting green – its speed gave a flavour of what was to come...

I’d pre-booked the Rafters restaurant at 11.30am to get something to eat pre-round but when we got there we were informed the restaurant didn’t open until noon, which was very strange. That said, when we did sit down, the service was very good and quick, and the set price, two-course meal was splendid value for money

Covid restrictions meant we couldn’t use the locker rooms, but the clubhouse itself is magnificent. Playing the 18th with a crowd of people watching from the clubhouse was intimidating… there were a lot of cheers when people fell short into the water, as mine did!

We booked as part of a stay-and-play package, and that was fantastic value. To play on such an iconic course was amazing, though rather costly on the lost ball count!

For me, the only on-course negative was, as with any course geared towards ‘corporate golf’, the slow pace of play due to the sheer number of people out there. On one tee there was us, and the two groups ahead waiting to tee off. Everything else, however, was very impressive.
