OUR FAVOURITE AREAS OF GB&I

-

Highlands

Led by Dornoch, Nairn and Castle Stuart but backed by Golspie, Tain, Moray’s duo, Fortrose & Rosemarkie and co. – and Brora is an essential experience for anyone with golf in their soul.

Atlantic Coast

The A39 Atlantic Highway taking in north Cornwall, north Devon and Somerset includes Burnham & Berrow, Royal North Devon, St Enodoc and Saunton. Epic scenery, epic courses, epic trip.

Ayrshire

Headlined by Turnberry, Troon and under-appreciated Prestwick, backed up by gems such as West Kilbride and Troon’s second course, Portland. You’ll need a week of 36 holes a day to do it justice!

Surrey

Doesn’t seem like a place for a golf break for some reason, but Surrey’s strength in depth is absolutely insane. What’s more, we happen to think heathlands are as good as links…

Donegal

Ireland’s under-rated area. Ballyliffin, Rosapenna, Donegal, Portsalon, Narin & Portnoo and the awesome Cruit Island – plus Tom Doak’s St Patrick’s Links from this summer. So much cheaper than anywhere else in Ireland.

East Lothian

It’s not just that it has incredible depth to its links, it’s that it is all so neatly packed along the same road, the A198. Start at Open icon Musselburgh Old and end at Dunbar and you’ve had a links education.

West Wales

Royal St David’s and Aberdovey are the big names here, but then you also have mind-boggling Nefyn, plus hybrid Porthmadog and cute links Abersoch and Borth.

Norfolk

Royal West Norfolk and Hunstanton are awesome, contrasting Top 100 links, but then you throw in clifftop action at Cromer and Sheringham. A lovely part of the world.

Leeds

Heathland heaven in Alwoodley and, just across the A61, Moortown, both in fabulous nick all year round. Throw in Ganton near Scarborough on the way there/back and you have a high-class trip.

Aberdeen

Ridiculously under-rated, as its presence in Scottish Top 100 showed; Trump Aberdeen, Cruden Bay and Royal Aberdeen are the superstars but you have Fraserburgh, Murcar and Newmachar, plus Newburgh just outside the list.

Golf World’s Southport

Needs little introduction, with Birkdale, Hillside, Formby, West Lancs and S&A strung along the coast, almost side by side.

Birmingham

The Belfry is the ‘experience’ option to follow in the footsteps of the greats, and pair that with Sutton Coldfield, Blackwell and any combination of Little Aston, Beau Desert, Enville, Whittington Heath and South Staffs.
