As new equipment floods the golf market, Golfbidder picks their top used sellers of 2021
Taylormade SIM2 Max fairway RRP: £279 Golfbidder price: £175
TG verdict Ever since the Rocketballz launched in 2012 (the first fast-faced fairway wood), Taylormade fairways have pretty much sold themselves. The main story behind the SIM2 Max builds on the relaunch of the hugely popular V-steel sole. Taylormade say the switch improves turf interaction and helps with playability. From our standpoint, moreso than in the last few years, the Max is better suited to more club golfers than ever thanks to a slightly bigger head profile and a larger face.
Ping G425 Max driver RRP: £449 Golfbidder price: £323
TG verdict Many golfers thought Ping were late to the movable weight party when they revealed their first driver with a movable CG, the G410 Plus in 2019. But Ping being Ping (essentially they’re a company built on engineering), they refused to make a movable weight model until they could include a weight track that had zero compromise on MOI and forgiveness. The G410 Plus has been replaced by the G425 Max, which boasts a 460cc head that is rounder in shape than the LST model. And thanks to a 26g CG shifter (which is 10g more than the G410 Plus), you get 7% more MOI forgiveness than you did from the G410 Plus.
Taylormade P790 RRP: £1,320 Golfbidder price: £803
TG verdict What Taylormade achieved by introducing the more player-focused P770 in 2020 was the ability to loosen the shackles a little on the P790s, freeing it up to target a slightly wider audience than both previous P790 models – and that’s a really good thing. We’re not saying high-handicap golfers should be looking at this model. But we reckon mid-handicap club golfers who aspire to use a really good looking iron and probably put a premium on their irons being forged should now be seriously considering it.
Callaway JAWS wedge RRP: £159 Golfbidder price: £139
TG verdict Callaway say the grooves on their JAWS MD5 wedges are the most aggressive in the game, and produce more spin over the previous MD4 thanks to a new wall design that is 32º greater in angle than the previous model. Designed by Callaway wedge legend Roger Cleveland and his extensive R&D team, the grooves on the JAWS MD5S have a tighter edge radius to create more spin and are more of a V shape to help increase the friction between club and ball for more control on shots from 80 yards and in.
Cobra RADSPEED driver RRP: £369 Golfbidder price: £263
TG verdict It’s no secret that low-spin drivers with weight stacked towards the front up ball speed and lower spin – which leads to more distance. This style of weighting adds less dynamic loft at impact, which means you get a lower, more penetrating ball flight, too. But what’s less talked about is how this weight set up also lowers MOI and forgiveness. The RADSPEED has a compact, traditional 460cc head, Cobra say it delivers the fastest ball speeds, lowest spin rates and most workability of all three RADSPEED models. There’s 32g of front radial weight and a further 14g at the back to ensure vertical impact stability and a very welcome degree of playability.
