TG VERDICT We love how the GT sets up at address, the stability of the fang-shaped head (with its two hefty (90g) side weights) and how the short, single sightline and subtle ball-width alignment aid make a modern fanged putter look so unfussy and uncluttered. As far as compact but stable putters go in 2022, the GT is right up there among the very best.
Cobra King 3D Printed Supernova | £269
TG VERDICT The Supernova’s oversized fang and wing-shaped body has a lightweight, 3D printed nylon core. It frees up weight and nudges MOI forgiveness up, which is an advantage the competition struggle to match. There are three different 3D Printed head shapes, but our money would be spent on the Supernova as its head shape is unfussy and gives a really good indication of path.
Odyssey Eleven | £329
TG VERDICT We’re big fans of straighter line putter head shapes on the dancefloor, so naturally the Eleven scored well. We love the feel of the White Hot insert and the idea of having the Triple Track alignment set-up sat behind a Triple Track ball. The MOI putter market is hugely competitive, but the Eleven will still be among the most popular and biggest selling models of 2022.
Bettinardi Inovai 6.0 | £339
TG VERDICT The Inovai 6.0 isn’t a brand new 2022 model, but what’s different is a 5% smaller size and a new stealth black finish. Bettinardi putters are always beautifully made and we love the detailing of the 6.0’s head, the feel, sound and roll from the Cnc-milled face, and how the fanged head design frames the ball at address. In fact, there’s not much we don’t love about it.
Evnroll Er11vx | £409
TG VERDICT The Er11vx is brand-new for 2022. The putter is built on the brilliant Er11v’s aluminium chassis, but by adding more sizeable stainless steel wing-shaped weights, MOI forgiveness is increased over previous models. A new bolder sightline taps into an emerging trend towards wider centre lines, helping improve alignment consistency. We love the grip choices, too.
Scotty Cameron Phantom X 11 | £389
TG VERDICT The fanged Phantom X is the model that’s enabled flatstick legend Scotty Cameron to take his brilliant Cnc-milled, toe-and-heel-weighted blade putters into the MOI market, and the switch has been in part due to the success of Justin Thomas and Patrick Cantlay using the family. It’s a beautifully made, multi-material MOI putter and it oozes class.
PXG Battle Ready Gunboat | £269
TG VERDICT The Gunboat’s oversized head is a big, chunky stability monster, which makes it a great option for golfers with the wonkiest of strokes. We reckon less confident players will warm to the long, extra-bold sightline, which is great for highlighting alignment accuracy and drawing focus directly onto the impact position. And we love how PXG putters come with at least three hosel options.
Wilson Infinite Buckingham | £119
TG VERDICT Good value-for-money putters can be tough to find nowadays, so we like highlighting decent budget buys when we can. You don’t get a hosel choice, changeable weight set-ups or a soft face insert here, but the Buckingham is a strong modern MOI putter choice for sensible money. The Infinite family runs to eight options, including blade and mallet models.
Toulon Design Las Vegas | £379
TG VERDICT Fanged putters have been done many times, but cast and painted models can never look as precise, high quality or sophisticated as the Las Vegas. It showcases brilliantly what CNC milling brings to the party. It’s the attention to the tiniest of detail and the model’s new front weight set-up – which gives a more blade-like launch and feel – that made the Las Vegas a TG award winner in 2022.
Evnroll ER11V Midlock | £399
TG VERDICT Before 2021, we’d never recommended an armlock putter, primarily because every model we’d tested always felt really unnatural to use. But Evnroll’s ER11V, with its 40in shaft and Midlock grip, challenged our thinking as it felt so locked in and stable while hitting putts. If you fancy exploring armlock putters in 2022, we’d seriously recommend you start with the ER11V.
