In a nutshell… Perthshire is home to the resort we rank as the No.1 in GB&I and No.2 in the world; Gleneagles, frankly, needs no further introduction. But did you know this gorgeous, tranquil Scottish region is home to a second outstanding resort that we also rank highly in our biennial GB&I Resorts list?
Murrayshall is a mini Gleneagles in many senses – including its cost! More than one course set down over undulating land? Check. Luxury hotel set in a characterful building?
Check. Exquisite food morning, noon and night? Check. So if you want a peaceful, invigorating golf break in the heart of beautiful Perthshire that isn’t quite so hard on your wallet, Murrayshall is absolutely perfect. Societies will love… Murrayshall oers ‘Modern Luxury in a Historic Setting’; Murrayshall House has stood in its 350-acre estate for over 300 years, roamed by wild roe deer, red squirrel and hares, as falcons and owls hover in the skies above.
There is a course, the Murrayshall, a layout that is good enough to have been ranked in our Scottish Top 100 courses, and a fine
Did you know? Nearby Scone Palace was for many years the seat of Scottish parliament and where kings were crowned.
No.2, the Lynedoch.
The Murrayshall was designed by Hamilton J. Stutt and he enjoyed a fine site on which to work – mature woodland that dated back to the 1600s. The undulating parkland is dissected by natural burns and is now also populated by distinctive white sand bunkers. The 10-hole Lynedoch is perfect for a second round of the day and also for beginners. It is shorter but it is proper golf and don’t be amazed if some of your party even prefer its mix of sporty holes.
Murrayshall is located near historic Scone, o the A94, 10 minutes’ drive north-east of the city of Perth and is THE perfect base from which to play five other Scottish Top 100 fixtures; the duo at Blairgowrie and Gleneagles’ trio – plus even the riches of Fife to the south-west and Carnoustie and co in Angus to the east. Oh, and another society favourite, Crie.
The accommodation is equally impressive. You stay in the high-ceiling rooms of Murrayshall House or the modern suites in Murrayshall Suites (built in 2000), 50 yards from the main house. And as mentioned, you dine on award-winning local produce – we can guarantee you will love the food every bit as much as the delightful courses and the sublime accommodation.
Top hole… The 7th on the Murrayshall is perhaps the pick – a dog-leg to the right that plays around a tree in the fairway… with the brave gambling with the out of bounds on the right. Your approach is played over a stream to an elevated green.
