Sotogrande – Europe’s finest?

-

There is good reason to believe that the Sotogrande area is continental Europe’s greatest region for golf.

Both Paris and Amsterdam have more Top 100-ranked courses dotted around their city limits, but nowhere can match Sotogrande for highcalibre courses within a concentrated area.

At the heart of Sotogrande is Valderrama – former Ryder Cup host venue and one of golf’s most recognisable names. The immaculately kept, winding fairways, beautiful cork trees, and tricky greens deliver one of the game’s most challenging tests. Recognising that, it’s also a regular host to the DP World Tour’s Andalucia Masters.

Real Sotogrande is another highlight, with the Robert Trent

Jones Snr championship course continuing to enthral players after more than half a century. Set close to the Sotogrande coastline and just minutes from the marina, this famous layout features tight, tricky longer holes and beautiful par 3s that combine to create an incredibly picturesque and memorable golfing experience.

And then there is La Reserva

Club, the jewel in Sotogrande’s crown and a must-play for those visiting southern Spain. Set atop Sotogrande’s highest peak, La Reserva benefits from natural vistas across both the Mediterranean Sea and the Andalucian hills. In its short history, the Cabell Robinson design has hosted the Ladies European Tour on multiple occasions, most notably as a venue host for the ongoing Aramco Team Series.

Add to that, 27 holes at the wonderful Almenara Golf Club.

The three nine-hole circuits have recently undergone an extensive remodelling by Manuel Pinero.

Combine this world-class golf with a luxurious stay at the new five-star SO/ Sotogrande hotel, and you have a very appealing prospect for the discerning golfer.
