GOLF ON THE EDGE OF THE WORLD

A round at Lofoten Links in the Arctic Circle is pure bucket list

- Words by Katie Martynowicz

What if you could play golf at midnight? Or 1am? Or 3am? Well, believe it or not, you can, under the magical midnight sun, here at Lofoten Links in Northern Norway.

Come visit us when the sun does not set and find out how many rounds you can play in 24 hours.

From late May through to the end of July, you don’t need to worry about being chased off the golf course because of darkness, because darkness doesn’t descend.

“The tee time is any time,” says CEO Frode Hov, “so if you feel like playing at midnight, you can just walk out and play.”

Where else in the world can you watch the sun kiss the horizon while at the same time hitting the links?

Located 153km (95 miles) above the Arctic Circle on the Lofoten Islands, Lofoten Links’ 18-hole golf course is serenely situated on the edge of the world.

The course ebbs and flows within its extraordinary landscape, just as the tides of the Norwegian Sea ebb and flow in front of you. So perfectly so, you might miss it if you aren’t looking for it.

You’ll get out the sticks on Gimsøy island, where myriad mountain ridges stretch as far as the eye can see and the raw, wild nature envelopes itself around you as you journey from hole to hole.

“Playing here is like communing with nature,” enthused one golfer recently, after experiencing Lofoten for the fist time.

And it’s not just the midnight sun that intensifies that spiritual experience golf gives visitors. From mid-august until mid-october, you can play golf from the best place to watch the Northern Lights in all of Lofoten.

It doesn’t come to a surprise, then, that in 2022, Today’s Golfer named Lofoten the No.1 X Factor golf course in Europe.

You can also walk in the footsteps of Viktor Hovland, whose prowess led him to set a new course record at Lofoten Links back in late July this year.

And while you’re resting between rounds, enjoy spectacular views from our Lofoten Lodges, located less than a mile from the course.

Our new, Nordic-style, cozy lodges feature giant windows facing north to the sea, providing the perfect setting for that once-in-a-lifetime view of the midnight sun or the Northern Lights. Or why not gaze at these marvels from the comfort of one of our hot tubs?!

Whichever you choose and whenever you visit, your next great golf adventure begins here.
