St. Mellion offers one of the finest golf courses in Europe. But don’t take just our word for it. “To this day, I don’t think there is another course like it in the UK,” said Jack Nicklaus. “I am pleased St. Mellion continues to offer a first-class golf experience for its members and guests.”

This glowing verdict by the 18-time Major winner perfectly sums up Cornwall’s Golf World Top 100 Resort, which opened in 1976 as an 18-hole golf course (the Old Course) and now boasts an 80-bedroom hotel, extensive resort complex and self-catering holiday cottage collection.

Home to numerous professional golf events, the first to be held at the club was in 1978, when St. Mellion hosted the PGA Cup, a match between GB & Ireland and the victorious US. The Old Course then went on to host St. Mellion’s first European Tour event in 1979, the B&H International Open, before hosting the TPC Championship in 1983 and 1984.

The Nicklaus Course – Jack’s first Signature Course constructed outside of the USA – opened in 1987 with the hosting of the Ladies British Open (won by Alison Nicholas) before it was officially opened in 1988 by Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Sandy Lyle and Nick Faldo. The Nicklaus Course went on to host six B&H International Opens from 1990 to 1995, with winners including Seve, Jose Maria Olazabal and Bernhard Langer.

In 2009, St. Mellion underwent a multimillion-pound redevelopment due to the popularity of the resort and the desire to host future European Tour events. The golf resort has now hosted a total of 14 European Tour events and other significant events including various PGA tournaments and the English Amateur Championship in 1999, won by Paul Casey.

Today, St. Mellion remains at the forefront of top-level golf, having hosted the European Tour British Challenge in 2022 and 2023, allowing the next generation of future legends to follow in the footsteps of some of golfing’s greatest names.

Last August, coming off a top-20 finish in the Open at Royal Birkdale, Alex Fitzpatrick was among 156 competitors in The British Challenge, securing his first Challenge Tour victory with a final score of 4-under-par for a winning score of 12-under for the tournament!

St. Mellion Estate is one of the UK’S most popular resorts for group golf breaks, retaining its position each year in the top 20 in Golf World’s Top 100 Resorts in GB & Ireland. We are absolutely delighted to now be listed in the Top 100 World Resorts.

Follow in the footsteps of golf’s greatest legends and future stars; experience an unforgettable golf break at St. Mellion.
