5 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE... SKODA ENYAQ IV

A handful of essential facts on Skoda’s sharp new electric SUV

-

1 IT’S BASICALLY A VW ID.3 IN A FROCK

Well, it’s the first Skoda to be based on the VW Group’s MEB platform anyway. That means you’ll be able to choose from either a 62kWh battery and 176bhp motor, or 82kWh and 200bhp. Skoda reckons up to 242 miles of range from the 60, and 316 miles from the 80 version. Both get 50kW DC charging as standard, or you can unlock 100kW+ rapid charging via the options list...

2 IT’S A RWD DRIFT MACHINE

Perhaps the drifty bit is taking things too far, but it is exclusively rear-driven... for now. The 60 will hit, um, 62mph in 8.7 seconds, while the more powerful Enyaq 80 will do it two tenths quicker. Later, there’ll be a range topping vRS version that deploys even butcher bodywork, many badges inside and out, another motor on the front axle (for four-wheel drive) and a 0–62mph time of 6.2 seconds.

3 IT’S A BIT OF A TARDIS

It’s a smart looking thing, a bit longer and as wide as a VW Tiguan, if that helps you visualise. Skoda says it’s as commodious as a Kodiaq (the big SUV), despite being shorter than an Octavia (the estate). Inside, there’s a massive 13in central freestanding touchscreen for you to get grubby, along with a digital cockpit housed inside a 5.3in display.

4 IT’S FAMILY PROOFED

A pair of 1.5-litre bottles fit inside the doors, there are USB-C ports, folding tray tables, smartphone storage, an ice scraper with a tyre-tread gauge, Skoda’s trademark umbrellas nestled inside the front doors and 585 litres of bootspace. Skoda hasn’t confirmed if future variants will iron your clothes, clean your room and take out the rubbish.

5 IT’S NOT RUINOUSLY EXPENSIVE

Prices in the UK kick off at £33,450 for the iV 60, which gets 19in wheels, rear parking sensors, dual zone climate control, keyless go and a fabric/fake leather interior, although real cow skin is yours for a little over a grand. The iV 80 starts at £38,950 and it gets Better Stuff: heated wheel, front parking sensors and a rearview camera, while the £49,995 80 ‘Founders Edition’ gets 125kW DC charging, 21in wheels, illuminated front grille and black leather.
