The all new Renault Megane E-Tech 100% electric has been a decade in the making – here are 10 reasons why it’s a Top Gear Electric Awards 2022 winner

IT’S A LOOKER

A familiar name that’s now fully electric, the all new Megane E-Tech 100% electric mixes classic hatchback practicali­ty with cutting-edge, crossover style. Its shape is informed by aerodynami­c innovation – the low, coupe-style roof and those sculpted lines actually help to increase the driving range. ey also give it a futuristic look, along with the 20-inch alloy wheels, standard on the Techno and Launch Edition, distinctiv­e LED lights and gold chrome accents on the Launch Edition. ere’s a bit of theatre about it too. As you approach, puddle lamps even illuminate the Renault logo on the ground.

YOU WON’T WANT TO GET OUT

e cabin is completely reinvented, taking the all-electric experience to another level. e dashboard is fully digital, with a sweeping widescreen displaying essential informatio­n and digital dials. en there’s the central tabletstyl­e nine-inch OpenR link screen, which is home to the navigation and built-in apps. e inside is smart and uncluttere­d, with a choice of finishes and inventive materials, including recycled fabrics. Plus, being a Megane, it’s also practical – it has lots of storage, including a seven-litre cubby between the front seats.

IT’S ROOMY

Renault’s dedicated all-electric architectu­re frees up plenty of room. With no engine, exhaust or transmissi­on tunnel, there’s more space for people and storage, and thanks to the ultra-slim battery pack and compact 160kW motor, the designers have maximised the interior space, while retaining compact dimensions. In other words, it’s bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside. e flat floor means there’s more room to stretch out and there’s 440 litres of boot space, with the charging cables hidden away in an under-floor compartmen­t.

GOOGLE IS BUILT IN

e all new Megane E-Tech 100% electric is one of the first cars with Google fully integrated, which comes as standard on the Techno and Launch Edition1. at means you can use all the best apps – including Google Maps – without having to connect or mirror your phone. You can add up to five accounts, so different drivers and passengers can log into their own profiles. And there’s hands-free help with Google Assistant – just say

“Hey Google” to make calls, find a destinatio­n or even change the temperatur­e. It’s as smooth as a smartphone and just as easy to use.

IT’S PACKED WITH APPS

In addition to Google Maps, other integrated apps include Spotify, YouTube Music, Google Play Books and more. Just log into your Google profile and use the apps as you would on your phone. It’s the ultimate on-board entertainm­ent. On top of
