I’d like to know there­fore how easy is it to re­move drive to the front wheels, ef­fec­tively con­vert­ing the car to rear-drive, C2 spec? I’m sorely tempted! Ray End­sleigh, via email

Scott’s an­swer: “This would def­i­nitely not be some­thing I would ad­vise do­ing to a 964 Car­rera 4 – they have too com­plex an all-wheel-drive sys­tem with the high pres­sure pump and diff locks. Speak­ing to our clas­sic car tech­ni­cian, Nick Perry (also Gold cer­ti­fied) he men­tioned that even for in­stalling a Car­rera 2 gear­box, you may po­ten­tially still en­counter prob­lems with the diff lock sys­tem.

My ad­vice in the first in­stance then is to opt for a good geo setup to help elim­i­nate some of the un­der­steer you men­tion or, if you are re­ally com­mit­ted, sell the 964 Car­rera 4 and look to re­place it with a reardrive Car­rera 2!”
