Commemorative Classic series unveiled
SC, 964, 993 and 996s restored by Porsche GB to celebrate 70 years of Porsche
Porsche GB’S Classic arm has unveiled 20 special-edition restorations in partnership with approved body repairers as part of its own homage to Porsche AG’S 70th birthday celebrations this year. The 20 cars are made up of a mixture of air- and water-cooled cars from throughout Porsche’s historical model line-up. The 911 contingent is represented by a 1982 SC, 964 Carrera, 993 Carrera 4, 996.1 Carrera and 996 Turbo, all with a manual gearbox.
Each of the 20 cars are identically finished in the same Liquid Metal silver of the 918 Spyder, with all-black interiors. As part of the comprehensive restoration each car features a completely rebuilt engine, while the refurbished seats feature retro-inspired ‘Porsche’ branded cloth on the centre sections. A commemorative ‘70 years of Porsche’ plaque has been installed on the dashboard of each example, with each car coming with what Porsche GB has described as a ‘commemorative presentation folder’, which documents the work which has been carried out and lists the new ‘feature’ parts.
“Following the success of previous restoration projects we were keen to find another initiative to tie in with celebrations of 70 years of Porsche sports cars,” commented Jonathan Mannell, manager, Owner Services, Porsche Cars GB. “The customer feedback from our Centres participating in the previous restoration competitions indicated that there was demand for authentic restorations of Porsche models across the spectrum.” The cars made their public debut at the NEC’S Classic Car Show in mid-november.
