GT2 RS Clubsport revealed in LA

991-generation is signed off with limited edition turn-key race car

-

Less than 24 hours after Porsche revealed the new 992 generation to the world it waved an official goodbye to the 991 era of 911 by announcing a special build of 991 GT2 RS Clubsports. Strictly a turn-key race car, the GT2 RS Clubsport will be limited to just 200 units worldwide. It features the same 700hp twin-turbocharged flat six as housed in the road-going GT2 RS and remains rear-engined, shunning the rear-mid layout of Porsche’s 991 RSR. Like the 935 ‘Moby Dick’ unveiled at Rennsport Reunion nine weeks earlier the GT2 RS Clubsport uses the carbon steering wheel and colour display taken from the 2019 Porsche 991 GT3 R race car as well as an Fia-spec safety cage, racing bucket seat and six-point harness. The rear wing is much more pronounced than its road-going GT2 RS sibling however, and extensive weight saving has resulted in a 1,390kg total mass.

Porsche says the car can be run at club motorsport events, as well as selected race meetings. “For the upcoming years our customers will not only race the GT2 RS Clubsport on track days, but also at international motor racing events. We are currently holding very productive talks with the race organiser SRO,” says Dr Franksteffen Walliser, vice president Motorsport and GT Cars. Prices of the 991 GT2 RS Clubsport, which will be delivered from May 2019 in a white waterbased paint, start at €405,000 plus local taxes.
