Model 997.1 Carrera S Year 2005 Acquired November 2012

Last month I was still undecided on whether to go for replacement Bilstein B6 Oem-spec suspension or their slightly sportier and stiffer B8 option. I made the decision to go back to OEM ride height and set-up with B6, keeping the use of the factory PASM and giving the now 13-year-old suspension a complete refresh.

Unfortunately the B6 units were out of stock and on back order from Germany, so I was unable to get them fitted this month.

So, while I had a bit of free time one sunny weekend in between work I decided to give the Porsche a full winter clean, polish and wax in preparation for the winter months ahead and the salty UK roads!

The unbelievable thing is the car has never been polished or waxed since it was detailed almost four years ago! The ceramic coating has held up well over the four years, but more recently I noticed less beading when washing the car and a build-up of grime around the lower half of the car, making it tricky to dry. It needed a full deep polish!

Having used Autoglym’s products most of my life I decided to give its Super Resin Polish Complete Kit a try. It went on extremely easily with the supplied applicator sponge and came off just as easily with the finishing cloth, getting rid of the grime build-up but not cutting through the ceramic coating.

After that I wanted to seal it with a good layer of wax, and for this I thought I’d give Autoglym’s Ultra High Definition Wax a try from its new UHD range.

This also came with a handy little foam applicator, making application a doddle!

Some waxes I’ve tried in the past can be tricky to remove and leave a lot of residue, so it was nice to find the UHD wax came off with little effort, leaving an amazing deep reflection and restoring the Basalt black back to its former glory. Now to see how it stands up to the winter weeks ahead!
