If you are a regular reader of Total 911 you will know for the last eight issues of the magazine I have had the great fortune of interviewing Porsche legend Hurley Haywood. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and one I will always truly treasure.

I spent nine months getting to know Hurley. He shared some fascinating stories with me, from his time as a child growing up in Chicago and winning his first race in the 911S at Watkins Glen in 1969 to his last race at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2012.

Hurley drove some of the most iconic Porsche, including the 911 RSR, 917/10, the 936 and the 956/962.

Hurley’s numerous race victories in his 40-plus-year career included the man winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times, the 24 Hours of Daytona five times and the 12 Hours of Sebring twice. In fact, Hurley was the first driver to win Le Mans and Daytona in the same year.

If you missed any of Hurley’s columns I recommend you get the Total 911 back issues all the way through to issue 167. If you have enjoyed reading Hurley’s monthly column I’m pleased to announce I will be interviewing another Porsche legend for this very magazine: no less than Vic Elford.

Vic’s importance in the history of the 911 can’t be understated. He has been sharing his memoirs with me, including his time growing up in World War ll London and how he came to drive the 911 to victory at the Monte Carlo Rally in 1968.

Porsche recently produced a one-off 911 T tribute car to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1968 Monte Carlo Rally victory. The man himself autographed the beautiful 911 last September at Rennsport Reunion Vl.

Recently I took photos of the 2018 tribute car while it was on display at the Porsche Experience Center Los Angeles. As I’ve mentioned before, the PECLA is a place I visit quite frequently!

Vic and I are excited to share his memoirs from his illustrious career with Total 911. Over the coming issues you will learn why he is an absolute Porsche legend and why he deservedly earned the nickname ‘Quick Vic’.
