DESIRABLE OPTIONS
This was already a well-appointed car, and with many of the first owners prepared to delve deep into the options catalogue there’s no need to settle for a car with a relatively sparse spec. But with more options available than ever before, what would our specialists look for in their own Carrera S?
Sport Design wheel
A beautiful wheel carried over from the 997 Turbo S, the ‘Sport Design’ gives a clean look free of any buttons cluttering its multi-function alternative. It looks more sporty, feels great to hold and for PDK cars brings paddles rather than horrible push buttons for gear changes.
Sports exhaust
It only cost around £1,800 to add to an S and was widely selected as a result, unlocking a real flair to the 991.1’s naturally aspirated soundtrack. We think it’s one of the best-sounding 911s of all time, so why would you want to miss out on that?
Parking sensors
It sounds boring, but you’ll soon find out parking sensors are a handy addition to a 911 of this size. Staying with creature comforts, a sunroof is always popular, says Greig Daly, as are heated seats and a sound upgrade – most went for Bose, which is better value than the Burmester.
PDK
Yes, this is Total 911 telling you to buy an auto rather than manual 911. The PDK unit simply suits the character of the 3.8-litre engine more – manuals are better suited to the 3.4-litre Carrera – and its responsive, clever mapping makes for pleasurable driving. Conversely, the seven-speed manual is clunky and arduous in traffic.
