997 GTS Coupe

-

It was a close run thing between the 997 GTS and its Gen1 GT3 relation in the 997 market among our team of Porsche experts. A perennial favourite among all but one of our specialists, the 997 GTS might have been a run-out marketing car, but it’s certainly a special one – likewise the 991.1 GTS that followed it, that too a car singled out by many here. Some – Cabs, PDKS and 4s – will have slipped into the price category below, but if you’re looking for a C2 manual Coupe then you’ll be searching into and above the £60k sphere. All GTSS command a premium over their Carrera and Carrera S relatives, the specification enticing to many, it bridging the gap between the ‘ordinary’ Carreras and the GT department’s cars.

A great, fast road car, it’s fun to drive. With a Powerkit on the 3.8 increasing the output to 408hp, the shapelier C4’s body and extras like Gts-specific styling inside and out, plus centre-lock wheels, the GTS is a fantastic all-rounder. Rosenthal says: “It needs to be manual,” Daly adding: “They’re super stable now; they peaked in 2019 and came back down, but they’re a solid car, easy to own, great to drive and the extra performance is cool. They’re probably the 993 C2S of the future.”
