993 Carrera S

Widebodies feature heavily in this year’s list of cars, and one of the prettiest is undoubtedly the 993 Carrera S – which many refer to as the 2S. The 993 in general was oft-mentioned among our experts, but this model was singled out specifically by most of them. Rightly so, the wider-bodied S is an absolutely beautiful car. Northway reckons the 993 is, with the odd bit of corrosion aside: “A zero defects car, and the most user-friendly and best-built 911 ever made.” High praise, and you can find out more about the model in our Porsche Index elsewhere this issue.

Daly admits RPM doesn’t sell many air-cooled cars, but whenever they’ve had an S in they’re quick to sell in the £70k-£100k sphere. He adds: “Just on looks they’re one of the prettiest 911s ever, and they’re small numbers, too.”
