How will the new 992 affect the GT3 market?
The 992 era has so far given us all manner of Carreras, Targas and Turbos, but for some, the generation has only just started to heat up with the introduction of its GT lineup. Officially unveiled in mid-february, cue fervent chat among enthusiasts across a plethora of social media and online forums, mostly to do with build slot availability and delivery numbers.
Such discussion is not exclusive to this GT3 launch, but the announcement of a new arrival to the GT stable definitely shakes things up for enthusiasts who will want to know if an overs market is likely to develop, and what – if any – affect the 992 will have on the overall
GT3 market. Cue some thoughts from Karl Meyer from
theporschebuyer.com, who’s worked at the heart of the dealer network for the last ten years: “Porsche says first deliveries are scheduled for May, but from our information within the network, that’s going to be a very tough ask. Very few will be delivered this year, which will mean those early cars will see high demand and a possible inflation in prices, but as more cars drip through later this year, I expect these cars to trade at list,” he says. That’s broadly in line with the sentiments of Anthony Pozner from Hendon Way Motors, who says an overs market is inevitable, though likely not in line with the inflation of previous years.
And what of the rest of the GT3 market, which has been fairly stable for the last year or so? “New arrivals always strengthen overall values,” Pozner tells us. “The new car attracts wider interest in the model lineage, and so we see a resurgence in older models over and above normal interest.”
Meyer is in agreement with Pozner’s market assessment: “Enthusiasts who are frustrated at not being able to get their hands on the 992 will naturally look at its predecessor in the 991.2, which is a phenomenal 911. It’ll mean for this year at least their prices will hold really firm.”
The questions we’ve asked will doubtless be on the lips of enthusiasts who are keen to see how the GT3 market develops this year, and the broad agreement from our specialists highlights their confidence in how events will likely play out.
