I think I’ve just started a car-based mid-life crisis – I’ve pretty much sold all my cars, although my wife would probably say this has been going on for years!

The aim was to focus on getting the perfect garage set up that will suit my driving for 2021. I’m going to focus my new purchases around a week-long road trip to the Alps and hopefully getting to as many Porsche events and car shows as allowed, when restrictions are lifted.

The Carrera T I bought for a road trip last year was just superb. I thought having the rear seats would be great as I could take the family out but in reality

this was never going to happen, as in the moment it’s always just so much easier to take the family car.

I spent time and money on the Carrera T at Litchfield to make it more like a GT3 or GT3 Touring and the suspension and upgrades did help, but it still wasn’t really raw enough for me. I have also owned a 991.1 GT3 PDK for a short period of time and loved the bucket seats, the naturally aspirated engine and 9,000rpm redline. However, every time I drove it I noticed I missed the manual gearbox. So this got me thinking about a 991.2 GT3 Clubsport with the manual ‘box, as that was ticking all my boxes and I could sell both the Carrera T and the PDK GT3, to have just one car that does everything for me. I had searched for one every day for over four weeks, missed out on two, spoken to lots of dealers and they always seemed to sell before going live on the websites. I almost gave up, until I got a phone call from Greig at RPM Technik about a potential Crayon GT3 with the manual ‘box I wanted coming into stock. They sent me the spec sheet and that was it, I was immediately sold and bought the GT3 without even seeing it – something I’ve never done before, but years of studying spec sheets you get an idea of what the car will look like.

The deposit was paid, all the images were sent and it’s perfect, I wouldn’t change a single thing on the spec. In fact, at the time of writing this article I’m sat in a taxi on my way to collect it.

The market for a well-priced and spec’d Carrera T was very strong and my car sold on the day of listing it, for what I had bought it for. I then traded the 991 GT3 PDK for just under what I paid for it, so I felt I got a really good result. Two cars sold to make one that fits my perfect car spec, and some money back in the bank. I wish it always worked out that well! Can’t wait to get some road trips done this year and tell you all about the GT3.
