Total 911

This month I’ve been shopping for Porsche parts as my 996 has been in need of some general maintenance. As previously mentioned, a check-up at Wrightune last autumn gave me a little ‘to-do’ list for the next few months, in order to keep my

911 in tip-top condition. Chief among the issues were the rubbers on my front drop links were perished, the 996’s front under tray was missing, and the brake pipes were getting unduly corroded.

I set about ordering new MEYLE front drop links (these represent a cost saving over OEM and, as the car’s MEYLE lower arms are still performing one year on, I decided to stick with the brand), plus an OEM front under tray, as well as BF Goodrich braided brake lines. These all came from Heritage Parts Centre (heritagepartscentre.com) with super quick delivery, who are offering a 10% discount from your basket when ordering Porsche items. Just make sure you use the code ‘SIBLEY’ at the checkout to activate your discount.

Meanwhile, I’d spoken to Wrightune about booking the 996 in to carry out the work in the next couple of weeks – which is right on cue, as my 996 has recently decided it’d like to be cooled by air rather than water (does this mean it’ll go up in value?!). A cracked coolant expansion tank (fairly common in 996s) means the car is letting go of a lot of coolant currently, so it’s got just one journey left in it – to Wrightune, and I’ll be taking a lot of spare water with me for the journey too! So a coolant expansion tank has also been added to the parts list, and I’ll report back next month on how the 996 fares for the above remedial work.
