Porsche launches ‘bodyformed’ 3D-printed bucket seat
An innovative 3D-printed ‘bodyform’ bucket seat will soon be available via Porsche Tequipment
Following evaluation by Porsche customers and Manthey-racing at the Nordschleife, Porsche has launched a new 3D-printed bucket seat based on its existing lightweight bucket. Available as part of the Porsche Tequipment range for 991 and 992 models with the option of a conventional bucket seat, it can be ordered via the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur process from February 2022 when it will appear on the Porsche Car Configurator.
Sections of the cushion and backrest are produced from expanded polypropylene bonded to a breathable layer of polyurethane-based materials using 3D printing technology. Three different rigidity grades allow the seat to be customised to suit the individual’s requirements while the outer skin is made of Race-tex – a non-slip perforated material.
The seat can also be retrofitted, in 991 models it can be fitted on the passenger side too; the fast fitting process takes place at a Porsche Centre. Each seat is priced at 2,677.50 euros (approximately £2,260).
