First all-synthetic fuel race
A grid of 30 pre-1966 Porsche 911s will make history at this year’s Goodwood Revival event, racing on fully synthetic fuels
Porsche is proving influential in the synthetic fuels argument. The brand was recently a significant player in pressurising the German government; it contested the EU’S lumping of synthetic fuels in with fossil fuels as part of the bloc’s ban on new cars sold after 2035. Meanwhile, the Porsche efuels pilot production facility in Chile is this season supplying the entire Porsche Supercup grid with almost carbon-neutral synthetic fuel.
Adding support to the fuels debate comes news of the first all-synthetic fuel race to be held at Goodwood Revival, which takes place on 8-10 September. Thirty pre-1966 Porsche 911s will make history in the Fordwater Trophy when their tanks are filled with the alternative fuel – part of Revival’s roster of 15 races dedicated to classic cars.
The move comes during a significant year for both Porsche and Goodwood. The Goodwood Members’ Meeting already celebrated 75 years of Porsche in April, with spectacular on-track demonstrations. The brand has also recently been confirmed as the featured marque at the 2023 Festival of Speed, which takes place in July.
At the same time, the West Sussex venue celebrates its own milestone: its 30th birthday. Later in the year, the Motor Circuit will use the Revival event to celebrate its own 75th anniversary, while Porsche will use both Goodwood gigs to anchor its celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the 911. One of the manufacturer’s central themes this year is Dreaming In Colour, so expect some imaginative designs inspired by bright hues.
