We’re always keen to learn about your MX-5S whether they’re standard or modified, pristine or travel-scarred, road warriors or track beasts.
DON TOWNSEND, UK. MK1 is
While Don only takes his 1995 is out in the summer, he’s enjoyed several overseas holidays in his immaculate roadster, including trips to the Stelvio Pass and the Nürburgring. The car’s an MX5OC award winner.
BEN ALBONE, UK. MK2 1.8 TURBO
In search of cheap wheels for some trackday fun and the occasional back road blast, Ben bought his mk2 a year and a half ago. Team Dynamics wheels and Wilwood brakes are amongst its many modifications.
SPENCER GLASS, UK. MK2 ARCTIC SPECIAL EDITION
His daily driver, Spencer bought his 2004 Arctic just after he graduated university. It’s totally original with no modifications, and despite its regular use, he’s hoping to make it the best-kept Arctic on British roads.
RICHARD MORGAN, UK. MK3.5 BBR SUPER 200
Bought new as a retirement present to himself, Richard upgraded his daily driver with a BBR Super 200 kit: he’s now saving up for a BBR turbo conversion. Meanwhile, he uses it for road trips around France and the UK.
PAUL FOSTER, USA. MK1 USA ‘C’ PACKAGE
A resident of South Florida, Paul bought the 1993 ‘C’ Package with just 47,000 miles on the clock. Now massively modified, he uses it principally for weekend drives and date nights with his wife.
NIGEL BIRD, UK. MK2
When Nigel’s daughter announced on New Year’s Eve she was getting married, there was only one car she wanted to get her to the church in time. Luckily her fiancé was able to help fit a new hood before the big day.
WILLIAM STONEHOUSE, UK. MK2 1.6
While confessing to changing a few bits and bobs in the interior, William has kept ‘Serena’ standard. He’s clearly not afraid to rack up the miles of his 1998 mk2, as the odometer reads in excess of 110,000 miles.
BILL KOWALEWSKIBARRERA, USA. MK2 RACE CAR & MK4
For fair weather cruising this Chicago-based retired grandfather has a 2016 mk4 Club, and with his 93,000-mile mk2 competes in National Auto Sport Association (NASA) Time Trials, also known as Time Attack in the US.
COLIN GRIMSLEY, UK. MK3.5
Based in the southwest, Colin didn’t buy his mk3.5 until March this year. He’s already taken it on a five-day tour of the Lake District with his wife, and has further plans for exploring south Wales.
JOHN VON BLANKENFELDS, UK. MK1 EUNOS 1.6
Acquired at Christmas 2015, John’s mk1 has undergone ‘many different looks’ during his ownership and racked up loads of miles. Recently resprayed in Sangria red, a turbo conversion is on the cards this year.
CHRIS BAKER, UK. MK1 EUNOS SUPERCHARGED
Chris bought his car mechanically standard in 2013 but it was missing its interior and had miscoloured panels. Now extensively overhauled, it features mods galore including an Eaton MP45 supercharger.
CURLIE N, UK. MK2.5
With its glittering yellow paintjob, custom Work wheels from Japan, and Mazdaspeed front spoiler, Curlie’s mk2.5 is an arresting sight. And the car has plenty of other mods that we don’t have the space to list.
THOMAS BUTLER, AUSTRALIA. MK3
Thomas bought his gleaming mk3 when he was just 18 and used it as his daily driver. Now aged 20, he’s the youngest member of the MX-5 Club of South Australia. He intends to hang on to his car forever.
LIAM FLAHERTY, UK. MK2 TURBOCHARGED
Originally bought for cheap rear-drive fun, but quickly turning into ‘a bottomless money pit’, Liam’s much-modded 1998 wide-arched mk2 runs with a Garrett GT250R turbocharger producing 280bhp.
PATRICK AZIMI, UK. MK1 ‘DRXFT TXRD’
Now here’s a look we haven’t seen before on a mk1! Patrick’s 230,000km car already has had plenty done to it, but future plans include ‘going silly static low and just being outrageous’.
ASHLEY WELLS, UK. MK1 1.6
Good job Ashley is a mechanic, because when his engine went pop he was able to replace it himself, with the help of some friends. Bought totally standard three years ago, it’s now extensively modified in every department.
ROBIN & TRICIA PRESTED, UK. MK2
‘We used to have a motorbike but now we’ve seen the light and ask ourselves the question, why didn’t we get an MX-5 years ago?’ says Robin. Much loved, the mk2 still only has 20,000 miles on the clock.
BOB MORPHEW, CANADA. MK3 GT
After crashing his dirt bike aged 70, Bob opted for a switch to four wheels. Now 73, he uses the 2008 mk3 GT for autocross competitions and touring with the Trillium Miata Club in the Toronto area.
DOMISH DOMINIAC, UK. MK1 1.8
Ignore the fact that the bonnet’s up in this picture, Domish claims that his 1.8-litre 1996 mk1 has never let him down. The car has been his daily driver for the past couple of years and he calls it his second wife…
DAVID NOWN, UK. MK3 2.0 & MK1 JDM BILSTEIN SE
It’s OK to be blue in the Nown household – David owns a blue 80,000-mile 1994 Japanese Bilstein special edition, his wife a 50,000-mile mk3, also in blue. Both cars are used as yearround transport.
